Heavy Rain Triggers Chaos and Rail Disruptions on Gujarat-Mumbai Route

Track Submergence Halts Premium Train Services

The vital rail corridor connecting Gujarat and Maharashtra faced unprecedented waterlogging on Thursday. According to Western Railway officials, the water level at Bridge No. 203 between Gholvad and Umargam Road reached a critical danger mark. As a direct result, authorities temporarily suspended all train traffic on the section to ensure passenger safety.

This suspension led to the absolute cancellation of over 15 major long-distance services. Passengers holding tickets for the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express and the Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express were left stranded. Additionally, several Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express services faced extensive delays or short-terminations at intermediate stations.

IMD Issues Stern Red Alert for Several Districts

The weather department has voiced deep concerns regarding the current monsoon surge. Therefore, a red alert remains active for Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and surrounding south Gujarat regions. Ahmedabad also witnessed record-breaking downpours, which dumped a staggering 177 mm of rain in just two hours.

Because of the continuous deluge, low-lying urban areas are completely submerged. Local administrations have deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to carry out urgent rescue operations.

Rivers Overflow in Uttar Pradesh Creating Flood Threats

Simultaneously, the monsoon fury has shifted heavily toward northern India. In Uttar Pradesh, widespread thundershowers have caused major rivers to swell rapidly above danger thresholds. The continuous influx of water from catchment areas has triggered severe erosion risks.

Consequently, several agricultural fields and rural settlements in eastern Uttar Pradesh are battling flash floods. Local district magistrates have issued high alerts for villagers residing near riverbanks. Emergency boats and relief camps are being set up rapidly to manage potential mass evacuations.

The weather department predicts that this heavy rainfall spell will persist for the next few days. Therefore, commuters are strongly advised to check live running statuses via the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app before starting journeys. Non-essential travel across these affected zones should be strictly avoided until water levels recede safely.
