Shubman Gill Voices Team India Fitness Concerns

Team India Fitness Concerns

India captain Shubman Gill has expressed serious Team India Fitness Concerns after India’s 2-1 ODI series defeat to England. Following the loss, Gill admitted that frequent injuries have disrupted the team’s balance. He also warned that India cannot afford repeated fitness setbacks before the upcoming ICC World Cup.

Moreover, Gill said that several key players missed matches during the England tour because of injuries. As a result, the team struggled to maintain a consistent playing combination. He stressed that fitness will play a crucial role in long tournaments where players must remain available throughout the competition.

Injury List Becomes a Major Challenge

The growing injury list has become one of India’s biggest concerns. Players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy either missed matches or dealt with fitness problems during the tour. Consequently, the team management had to make several changes to the playing XI.

Gill acknowledged that injuries affected the bowling attack the most. Therefore, India failed to field its strongest lineup in every match. He added that players need to remain fit for an entire tournament instead of only a few games.

England Capitalises on India’s Injury Woes

England made full use of India’s weakened bowling attack during the deciding ODI at Lord’s. Ben Duckett’s brilliant century helped England post a massive total of 387 runs. India responded with a strong batting effort led by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. However, the visitors fell 27 runs short, allowing England to seal the three-match series 2-1.

Meanwhile, Gill admitted that India conceded too many runs in the final overs. He also pointed to the team’s lack of bowling experience because of injuries. According to the captain, these issues proved costly in the series decider.

Focus Shifts to World Cup Preparation

Despite the disappointing result, Gill remains focused on the bigger picture. He believes the team has enough talent to compete at the highest level. However, he emphasized that player fitness must improve before the ICC World Cup.

Furthermore, Gill said that players cannot continue to miss matches after every two or three games. He urged the team to improve its fitness standards and remain available for selection throughout major tournaments.
